Welcome Mineral Collecting Enthusiasts

The centerpiece and raison d’etre for this website is my Discover Minerals journal. The journal is aimed at Earth scientists, collectors, and rockhounds who will find information on the mines, mineral resources, and geological history of the Mojave Desert region. I also include interesting articles and features such as Mine of the Month, Mineral Showcase, and Element of the Month where I describe the mine’s history and mineral assemblage; showcase a mineral relating to that mine; and focus on the element that mineral (and related minerals) is sought for (the element’s history, uses in industry and civilization, testing techniques, etc.).

My intent is to preserve for future generations the knowledge and experiences I’ve accrued over 40 years of being a geologist, naturalist, explorer, writer, rockhound, and collector.
