Mojave Natural Resources and Lithologic Survey
The Mojave Natural Resources and Lithologic Survey (MNRLS) is headquartered on Pierce Ferry Road in Dolan Springs, Arizona, just off US 93 between Kingman and Hoover Dam. Established as a private museum and research facility dedicated to studying the geology, environment, flora, and fauna of the Mojave region, MNRLS houses the private geologic collections of G. Miles Lehman.
Visitors from around the world pass by MNRLS on their way to witness one of the most iconic natural wonders of the world--the Grand Canyon! This presents a prime opportunity for travelers to visit the facility to learn about the actual geologic history of the nearby canyon, and to get familiarized with all that the adjacent Mojave Desert has to offer, such as its geology (minerals, rocks, fossils), mining, wildlife, and plants, as well as side trips and hikes.
Though there are no established hours of operation due to field studies, field trips, etc., all visitors are certainly welcomed to stop in when the facility is open. It is quite common for visitors to have inquiries about unidentified rocks and minerals they have found or have been laying around the yard for years!
In this regard, MNRLS engages in a variety of services, including geologic consulting, classroom instruction, guided field trips, wildlife photography, biological surveys, etc.
